We are currently reading 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas'. The book brings up issues around friendship, equality, fairness, leadership and the impact our actions have on others. We will have many class discussions on how we treat other people and whether people are either all good or all bad. We will discuss the effects of author's language and punctuation choices and how they contribute to the overall meaning.
This half term we will be concentrating on developing our understaning of the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will look at both mental a formal written methods used for all the operations along with completing problem solving and reasoning tasks to deepen our understanding. We will also focus on making links with our previous knowledge of number and place value whilst putting particular focus on numbers upto 10,000,000 and decimals.
In science we are learning about living things and their habitats.
We need to be able to:
Explore and compare the differences between things that are living, dead and things that have never been alive.
Identify that most living things live in habitats in which they are suited and describe how different habitats provide the basic needs of different kinds of animals and plants and how they depend on each other.
Describe how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals using the idea of a simple food chain and identify and name different sources of food.
