Welcome to Neptune
Our teachers are Miss Horne and Miss Thompson.
This term we have decided to learn about minibeasts.
Our author this term is Vivian French.
In phonics we have been practising for the Phonics Screening Check learning new ways to spell words.
For example, when you see 'ay' in a word like 'day' This sound can written many ways such as the 'ai' in 'pain' or the 'a_e' in 'game' It is about learning that some words may have the same sound in them, but they are spelt differently. We must recognise this when we are reading because it will aid us with our spelling choices in writing.
In addition to our daily phonic lesson we have phonic games on the table when the children come in to school in the morning and we will be giving out homework. Please practise as much as you can with your child, help them decode words and gain a love for reading. There is a brilliant website that you can use that can be found here at www.phonicsplay.co.uk You can practise all the new sounds and new words that your child learns in class in the form of exciting games.
Phonics Screening Check was on Monday 12th June and Tuesday 13th 2017.
Some basic skills in maths really help us in our work:
- At the end of year 1 we are expected to recognise, read and write numbers up to 100.
- To help us with our times tables we need to be able to count in 2's, 5's and 10's.
- We should know our number bonds to 20.
We need our PE kit on Thursday and our reading books/reading record books EVERY DAY.
Please bring a water bottle to school on a Monday, this will be returned each Friday to be cleaned at home.
