The children thoroughly enjoyed a visit from a musician during Arts week. We explored a range of different instruments and the varying sounds they make. The children warmed up their voices in preparation for singing along with some of the songs. They copied beats and rhythms and explored improvisation in music. They also focused on pitch and sound, hearing high and low pitches and loud and quiet sounds. This experience supports the 'expressive arts and design' aspect of the curriculum. Children had the opportunity to 'sing songs, make music and experiment with ways of changing them,' which is a key aspect to ensure children reach the Early Learning Goal expectation for expressive arts.
